Old Mill Farm
self catering holiday cottage

Old Mill Farm is a large 17th Century farmhouse on the outskirts of the pretty Norfolk village of Garboldisham. Situated in an idyllic position next to the village common and Garboldisham Windmill and set in over four acres of grounds, much of which is meadowland dotted with wild flowers, this is a tranquil place to relax and unwind.

The Front of the Cottage

The holiday cottage comprises a self-contained wing of the farmhouse, partially converted from an old barn, but now providing comfortable accommodation for up to four people.

There is a large sitting / dining room with comfy sofas, dining table and chairs, colour television, video and home theatre system. There are books, videos and games etc. to keep young and old amused in the evenings.

A small but fully equipped galley kitchen with fridge, cooker, microwave etc, two bedrooms, one double and one twin (both of which overlook the windmill), bathroom with wc, wash basin and bath with shower attachment, plus a small utility area with automatic washing machine.

Outside there is a private garden with garden furniture and barbecue, together with parking.

The cottage has oil fired central heating and double glazing and, together with its beams, cottage doors, pine furniture and bygones, has a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

All heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included.

The Rear of the Cottage

The property is entirely surrounded by over four acres of grounds which, being in close proximity to the common and fen, are a haven for many kinds of wildlife including rabbits, pheasants and even the occasional deer, as well as the owner's chickens and Griselda the Goose!

Camping Option
For a small additional charge, private camping is available for two more people in the adjacent meadow just yards from the cottage - an interesting adventure for the children while parents enjoy their home comforts!
Or for something a little different, ask about our Gypsy caravan.

Saxtead Green Windmill

Being close to the Norfolk / Suffolk border, we are ideally situated for exploring much of East Anglia, but the immediate area offers many delights within a 10 minute drive.

For nature lovers, there is Knettishall Heath Country Park where no fewer than three long distance footpaths can be joined and Thetford Forest with miles of off road walking and cycling. Both have a rich assortment of wildlife including several species of wild deer, and Britain's largest spider - the Raft Spider, can be seen at nearby Redgrave Fen.

Also close at hand are Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens, Banham Zoo and Snetterton Racing Circuit. The local towns of Diss and Bury St.Edmunds are well worth a visit for curiosities such as Gaze's Auction Sale and England's smallest pub.

Venturing further afield, historic Norwich and its cathedral, the old port of King's Lynn, Cambridge and its fascinating college buildings and punting on the River Cam are all within an hour. So too is the Norfolk and Suffolk Coast with the traditional seaside attractions at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, or the more sedate atmosphere of Southwold and Walberswick.

The Norfolk Broads are easily accessible and you can hire boats by the hour, do a little fishing or watch the power boat races on Oulton Broad.

The whole region is typified by quiet meandering lanes, unspoilt countryside, chocolate box cottages and sleepy, picturesque villages.

Whether you wish to stay for a couple of weeks, or just a few nights, Old Mill Farm is a property of charm and character in a rural setting providing an ideal base from which to explore East Anglia.
